Grim Reaper Storyboard: Part 2
This is another storyboard for a different grim reaper script for a commercial for Participaction. These are my rough sketches for the storyboard.
I then drew the same storyboard but I used a different process. In this one, I gave it a more painterly feel by just using the brush tool to block my shapes and figures in without outlining them. I was surprised that this method was faster than the method above.
The next thing I decided to do was pick one of my thumbnails and colourize it like I did in Part 1. But this time I will be using the same process in the above thumbnails which is painting in the colour without outlines. I picked the second thumbnail for this part.
I used these reference photos to help me paint a realistic woman, banana and grim reaper.
Here is my process:
1. I painted in the background. First the sky with a 60% opacity and 60% flow. Then the same measurements for the ground. Then I just added some fluffy clouds in the sky with a soft brush.
3. I made a copy of the tree, placed it farther back, and then warped it to make it look a bit different. I then took the top of the tree with the lasso tool and made a bush from it. I made it rounder and added some paint here and there to make it more realistic. I copied the bush and placed it on the other side but edited it to look different.
4. Painted in the woman's skin first. I added shadows and highlights to the skin. Then I worked on her hair and lastly the shirt.
5. I painted in the banana with different tones as well.
6. I drew in the Grim Reaper behind the tree and some of his hand on the other side. I added highlights and shadows to him. I had to warp the tree beside him because it was now too short to fit him beside it proportionately.
7. I added shadows under the bushes, trees, and Grim Reaper.
8. Finally, I added the top of the bench and then combined all the background elements into one group and apply a gaussian blur to it.
