Merry Christmas Mr. Bean Episode: Storyboard

I'm continuing with making storyboards and this time I took a scene from a Mr. Bean episode called Merry Christmas Mr. Bean. I loved watching this episode when I was a kid and I thought it would be great to storyboard because of the focus on physical comedy than verbal comedy that Mr. Bean is known for.

This will be the script I will work from to draw my thumbnails.

Frame 1: A man is looking at 2 small trees and is talking to the man selling them while Mr. Bean stands behind her.

Frame 2: The man has bought both trees so he's gone and the man is leaving the scene with his sign. Mr. Bean looks at where the trees used to be.

Frame 3: Mr. Bean puts his hands on his waist in frustration.

Frame 4: There is a town square full of people and a giant Christmas tree in the middle.

Frame 5: The same town square of people is there but the giant tree is know tilted.

Frame 6: Mr. Bean's yellow car comes into shot with the giant Christmas tree on the roof of the car.

Here are the thumbnails for the script. I used the painterly method.

Then I continued to use the painterly method when drawing the coloured frames. Here's what I did...

Frame 1:

1. Painted in the background for the first frame.

 2. I painted in Mr. Bean. I decided that I wanted to paint the highlights and shadows on him as I was painting because there wasn't much and the scene is so dark.
 2. I drew the trees in using multiple versions of green. I added a layer of dark green underneath it.
3. I added in the two other people on separate layers. I also added shadows and highlights to them while painting.
Frame 2:

1.  I used the same background because it's the same setting and I used the same Mr. Bean but with some modifications. I painted the rest of is body in and covered his shirt.

2. Then I painted in the guy leaving the scene with his sign.
Frame 3:

1. Again I kept the background because of the same setting. This time I just needed to draw a new Mr. Bean with his arms on is hips. The top one is how he looks without a background so you can see it more clearly.
Frame 4:

1. Frame 4 has a new background so I had to create a new one. It's the square and the buildings in the background. Frame 4 took the longest because of all the items I had to create.
2. Then I painted in the tree. I added a dark shade of green underneath it again.
3.  I then drew in all the people. Again I shaded them while I was painting because the details are so small.
4. I painted in a green table with stuff on it on the right side of the frame.
5. I drew in the woman in front of the table.
6. On the other side of the frame, I drew a garland wrapped around a wooden pole using multiple greens.
7. Then I painted in a tree on what seems to be a platform.
8. Finally, I added a table with candy or plants on it. I wasn't sure because the picture is so blurry but I copied what I saw as best as I could.
Frame 5:

1. This one uses everything from frame 4 so it was much less work for me. I just had to rotate the tree to the left and add some branches to the bottom.
Frame 6:

1. This last frame needed a new background so drew a new one.
2. Then I painted in Mr. Bean's car. I blended in the different yellows by changing the opacity.
3. Lastly, I drew the tree on top of his car. I used different greens and painted a dark green underneath it all on a separate layer.
So after all that, here are the final versions of the 6 frames.

I'll really happy with how this project turned out. I had some difficulties with working form semi burry images and my wrist has never been in more pain but I pushed through it. I'll proud of my work and I hope you enjoyed it.
