Merry Christmas Mr. Bean Episode: Storyboard

Image
I'm continuing with making storyboards and this time I took a s cene  from a Mr. Bean episode called Merry Christmas Mr. Bean . I loved watching this episode when I was a kid and I thought it would be great to storyboard because of the focus on physical comedy than verbal comedy that Mr. Bean is known for. This will be the script I will work from to draw my thumbnails. Frame 1: A man is looking at 2 small trees and is talking to the man selling them while Mr. Bean stands behind her. Frame 2: The man has bought both trees so he's gone and the man is leaving the scene with his sign. Mr. Bean looks at where the trees used to be. Frame 3: Mr. Bean puts his hands on his waist in frustration. Frame 4: There is a town square full of people and a giant Christmas tree in the middle. Frame 5: The same town square of people is there but the giant tree is know tilted. Frame 6: Mr. Bean's yellow car comes into shot with the giant Christmas tree on the roof o...

Grim Reaper Storyboard: Part 2

This is another storyboard for a different grim reaper script for a commercial for Participaction. These are my rough sketches for the storyboard. I then drew the same storyboard but I used a different process. In this one, I gave it a more painterly feel by just using the brush tool to block my shapes and figures in without outlining them. I was surprised that this method was faster than the method above. The next thing I decided to do was pick one of my thumbnails and colourize it like I did in Part 1. But this time I will be using the same process in the above thumbnails which is painting in the colour without outlines. I picked the second thumbnail for this part. I used these reference photos to help me paint a realistic woman, banana and grim reaper. Here is my process: 1. I painted in the background. First the sky with a 60% opacity and 60% flow. Then the same measurements for the ground. Then I just added some fluffy clouds in the sky with a soft brush. ...

Illustration Friday: Olympics

This one was from a few weeks ago but I did a large project with it. I picked one of the Canadian athletes going to the winter games in Pyeong Chang 2018   and made a poster for them to advertise the games. I picked the athlete Larkyn Austman and she is a figure skater. To create a good poster composition, I looked at the work of Bob Peak and David Grove. These are some of the references I used to help me with my design. Then I drew some thumbnails of my athlete with an action shot of them. I tried to use the techniques used in my reference pictures. I picked the bottom left and continued with the design in Photoshop. I used these pictures of her for the poster design. Here's a picture of my design after I finished her head. I used the three blobs of paint on the right side of her head as her skin tone. From top, it's the shadow, next is the midtone, and last is the highlights. I had to blend the colours together by changing the opacity of the paint....
